07.02.12The second of July
brought me epiphanies
with the strawberry shortcakes
that I was baking.

Things are best when simple,
like the sun on the kitchen floor,
though each has their perfect intricacies.

I could not count all the motes of dust,
catching with the flour in the two o'clock light,
but I knew that they resembled stars enough
to provide me with peace in the kitchen.

The air smells like lavender
and I am dying slowly with happiness
because it is impossible
for a heart to grow so full as mine.

While I dry my hands
I will look out the window at the oncoming storm
ignore its symbolism,
and live moment to moment.

The GarageYou are objectified nostalgia.
Behind the tools that father rarely touched,
beneath the spade that birthed the roses,
lies a jumprope coiled around the remnants of childhood.
As it rests by nubs of pastel chalks,
caught in rusted tricycle spokes,
it reminds me of a happiness
too often left to dust.

Almost LifelikeMy very life is plastic,
similar in hue
to the dirty water in the sink.
My cage is windowed,
but still a cage,
and however dark my song,
I am nothing but his "little bird,"
a pet well-trained.
A doll.
Pose me,
playing house,
my aspirations poised
to burn it down.

PostageThe sideboard drawer is full of promise,
twenty-cent whispers of correspondance,
lest we forget we are social;
creatures of communication.
Catch on my letters,
crookedly affixed,
the promise my words
will be read,
held,
and heard.

The SubconsciousYou engineered me to conduct
the darker music in your head.
We can waltz to it if you have the heart;
we can dance right through all your haunted thoughts.
Don't you know that I was first
through the crack in Pandora's box?

I am
a cloud-burst over your golden fields,
the colors behind your grayscale eyes.
You could call me the martyr for your creative faith,
but to earn that title I'd need to die
and
I have no intention
of ever losing my breath
or giving up the drumbeat
that you put in my breast

Burning Bridges.Her voice is as soft as ashes and he

can hear the sound of her heart burning.

"When will you be back?" she asks, and he

does not answer, cannot answer. Not yet.

"When it is finished," he finally says.

He turns to leave, and fancies that he can smell her

woodsmoke tears, the scent following him

in a silent rebuke.

hand full of hair, your skin on my teeth
nails down my back, a hundred heart beats

we've been here before
but still you fail to breathe, my eyes meeting yours

penetrating every thought
all attempts to speak
are all for not
though there's really no need

for we both know
this moment consumes what we are
every kiss, caress,
potentially a scar

left on our body's, hearts, and minds,
so much damage done in so little time.

till we both have no choice, but to lie in embrace
hearts racing skin bleeding on the pillow case

I really liked this piece.

I noticed that on the first line of the second couplet, you double spaced. Just thought I would mention it in case you missed that.

May I ask why you did not capitalize or use punctuation?
